Sacred Heart Convent School

Our longest-running client has been Sacred Heart Convent School in the Klong Toey district of Bangkok. Sacred Heart Convent is a prominent K-12 private Catholic girls’ school, the largest branch of the Sacred Heart family of schools. Our programs have been servicing the needs of its nearly 5,000 students since the mid-1990s.

We currently run three separate programs at Sacred Heart Convent:

1. Active Conversational English (ACE) Program

   In this, our oldest program, students study conversational English (focusing on improving speaking and listening skills) twice a week with IDEAL’s native English-speaking teachers. The reading and writing components are taught by the school’s own Thai English teachers in a separate program. IDEAL teachers in the ACE Program have their own air-conditioned classrooms, so they can create their own personalized learning environment.

2. English Program (EP)

   Begun in 2002, the EP is an English-medium program where students follow the Thai national curriculum and learn all core subjects – approximately 80% of their coursework – in English with IDEAL’s native English-speaking teachers. This includes English, math, science, art, P.E., health and other subjects. The other 20% of their coursework is taught by the school’s own Thai teachers. We currently teach from Kindergarten 2 up to Grade 12.

3. Intensive Program (IP)

   Begun in 2004, the IP is an extension of the ACE Program, where students study all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) five times a week with IDEAL’s native English-speaking teachers. We currently teach 6 levels, Prathom 1-6.

Phraharuthai Donmuang School

Sacred Heart Don Muang is the third addition of the Sacred Heart family of schools in Thailand. With a student population of 3,500 students it is not as large as its sister school in Klong Toei, but is no less dedicated to the development of its educational programs. In line with Sacred Heart Convent, Sacred Heart Don Muang understands the importance of the English language and its role in the global community.

In partnership with IDEAL English Academy a comprehensive Active Conversation English and Intensive Program covering grade levels from Kindergarten through till Mathoym, was designed and implemented at the beginning of the 2007 academic year.

It is exciting to see the progress that can be made when you have highly motivated teachers and students with a great teacher-to-student ratio.

• Class levels We teach kindergarten and grades 1-10
• Subjects taught We teach our ACE and IP programs at SHD and will introduce our new programs soon.
• Class size Classes are limited to 30 students, ranging from 15 to 20 students for ACE and 20 to 25 for IP.
• Administrative work Teachers have a moderate amount of administrative tasks to perform, such as daily lesson plans, exams, marking etc.
• Location Sacred Heart Don Muang is located just north of Bangkok, just passed the old international airport.

Praharuthai Nontaburi School

Based upon the success of IDEAL English Academy’s programs at Sacred Heart Convent School, Sacred Heart Nonthaburi entered into partnership with IDEAL to set up an Intensive Program on its campus in 2004. Sacred Heart Nonthaburi currently enrolls about 3,000 students ranging from nursery (2 years old) up to grade 12 (18 years old).

Initial plans were to start a modest program with about 100 students from grades 1-2 for the first year. Upon announcing the program, the number of enrollees soon exceeded this estimation, with a large number of grade 3 students wishing to enroll as well. Thus, we added grade 3 and began the year with just over 300 students.

With the successful completion of the first year, the Intensive Program proved to be hugely popular with the students, and at the start of the second year an additional 100 students enrolled. Going into the third year of the program the Intensive Program covered grades 1-5 with the addition of a grade 7 and 8. Year 4 continued to expand with more students enrolling. Total enrolment for the program is now over 1,000 students. And we are looking forward to year 5, were we will introduce our NEW SIP program.

Students study with native-speaking English teachers every day. Reading, writing, speaking and listening are all taught and expectations of student performance are high.

• Class levels We teach grades 1-9. One additional grade will be added per year up to grade 12.
• Subjects taught Students learn one class per day of English with native-speaking teachers. All other subjects are taught by Thai teachers.
• Class size Classes are limited to 30 students, although most classes are typically 22-25 students.
• Administrative work Intensive Program teachers have a moderate amount of administrative tasks to perform, such as daily lesson plans, exams, marking, etc. We also stated an EP program at SHN, but only for K1 -3 and we will add K4 in 2010.
• Location Nonthaburi is a suburb just north of Bangkok. The school is located on Tiwanon Road about 1.5 kilometers from Chaeng Wattana Road.
